Schindler UK Coast-to-coast Cycle Challenge Raises £25,000 for Charity

A team from Schindler UK, a leading provider of lifts and escalators, has completed a gruelling 140-mile coast-to-coast cycle challenge from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Tynemouth on the North East Coast, raising £25,000 for charity.

The organisations who benefited from this achievement were Crohn's and Colitis UK - Schindler's preferred charity for 2014, and Cancer Research UK.

This tough and exciting challenge saw the Schindler team cycling through some of the UK's harshest terrain over two days. The route passed through the Lake District, the Pennines and up into Northumberland before touching the North Sea at Tynemouth. There were steep hill climbs and exhilarating descents, making it one of the UK's most demanding, long distance cycle routes.

Commenting on the challenge, Richard Clarke, Sales and Marketing Director at Schindler UK, said, "We decided to plan a significant event to help increase awareness of these two serious conditions and to raise much needed funds for research, treatment and support."

"Most of us in the team had not been on the saddle since we were kids - but it still seemed the perfect challenge to cycle coast-to-coast over some of England's biggest hills!  The fact that we were supporting such well deserving causes drove us on to complete it and we were absolutely thrilled to smash our target of raising £20,000."

"We would sincerely like to thank the generosity of Schindler staff, our business partners and everyone who sponsored us."

Sponsors of the challenge included Remdale, Orton Lifts and Escalators, Dornack International, Triple A, Elevator Equipment, Reeley, Lift & Escalator Jobs, UK Service Lifts, JH Elevators, Northern Escalator Installations, Wincrest LiftBits, Web Electrical, MKM Elevators, Thames Valley Controls and Southern Contract Services.

The riders were Paul Baker, Graham Barker, Paul Carrick, Richard Clarke, Neil Deighton, Tom Engel, Richard Fridd, Alan Johnson, Steve Johnson, Ian Rayner, Simon Rogers, Adrian Rowlands, John Van Rein, Simon Waldeck, Karl Walker and Eddie Watkins.
