The Portakabin Group Announces Date for Apprenticeship Seminar

The York-based Portakabin Group - the UK's leading modular building specialist - has announced the date for an Apprenticeship Seminar which is open to anyone who is interested in becoming an apprentice.

The evening event will take place on Wednesday 20th April, 6pm to 8.30pm at the Portakabin Group's head office in Huntington, York.

This practical workshop will include:

-       A tour of the Portakabin Group's 60-acre international manufacturing centre

-       A talk from guest speaker Anthony Knowles of the Skills Funding Agency about why apprenticeships are becoming an increasingly popular career choice

-       The opportunity to meet and share the experiences of some of the current Portakabin apprentices on both trade and business training programmes

-       Break-out sessions on topics such as CV writing skills.

Amanda Stainton, Human Resources Director at Portakabin said, "Apprenticeships give young people the opportunity to gain invaluable training and knowledge to succeed and to maximise their potential.  We have found that apprentices bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm into our business and help us to grow our own talent by developing a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce."

"This event gives school and college leavers the chance to find out more about the trade and commercial apprenticeship schemes available at one of the UK's top businesses. Attendees can hear at first hand the experiences of some of our existing apprentices, and benefit from some practical tips and insight in the breakout sessions on topics such as CV writing skills."

Portakabin has increased its apprenticeships every year since 2011 and now has 47 apprentices and 12 graduate trainees in post.

The company offers 'trade' apprenticeships with schemes for joinery, electricians, decorating, plumbing, welding and metal fabrication. Portakabin has also extended its apprenticeship programme into commercial positions - and now has trainees in its Hire Division; an environmental trainee in the health and safety team; CAD design and project management apprenticeships; a specialist modular building engineering apprenticeship, and an administrative apprentice in Scotland.

The Portakabin Group has won a series of awards and accolades for its outstanding work with apprenticeships, including two National Apprenticeship Awards for Yorkshire and the Humber, and Large Employer of the Year at the York Apprenticeship Awards for two consecutive years. It is also a National Apprenticeship Service Top 100 Employer.

Portakabin employs more than 1,700 people in the UK and in seven countries across Europe, and has been delivering innovative building solutions in a range of public and commercial sectors for the past 50 years.
