Evolution5 Helps Two Schools Join the Stampede to Adopt Zany Zebras to Brighten up the Summer in Southampton!
Two primary schools in Southampton have benefited from support from construction consultancy Evolution5, to enable them to take part in Marwell Zoo's Zany Zebras Educational Programme and colourful public art extravaganza.
As part of its commitment to community engagement, Evolution5 has teamed up with Berrywood Primary School and Kings Copse Primary School in Hedge End to give each school its own zebra sculpture to design and decorate.
By joining the project, the children have also benefitted from an outreach visit from Marwell's Education Ranger and an education toolkit designed to develop learning to inspire the next generation about the importance of conservation.
The mass art event has attracted 100 schools and youth groups from four counties to participate in the project and to learn more about the endangered Grevy's zebras. The large and small zebra sculptures will then be displayed for 10 weeks over the summer to brighten up the streets and parks of Southampton.
Commenting on the project, Jamie Barrett, Managing Director of Evolution5 said, "We were delighted to sign up to such an exciting and educational initiative. We have an active community relations programme in place and are committed to supporting innovative local projects and particularly schemes which involve schools and young people."
"It is fantastic to see children engaging with important conservation work and in the creative process in such an enjoyable and informative way. And as our headquarters is based in Southampton, it is extremely positive that the project will be making a valuable contribution to the tourist economy and vibrancy of the city through the summer months. It will definitely put a smile on people's faces."
Christopher Reilly, Head Teacher at Berrywood Primary School said, "We are thrilled that our school has been able to join the colourful stampede and adopt a zebra, thanks to the support of Evolution5. The children are really looking forward to seeing all the other zebra designs. And we will be really proud when we see our very own Marwell's Zany Zebra in the centre of Southampton."
He added, "The project is completely in line with our ethos of making the school thriving, welcoming and exciting, and we fully endorse the brilliant conservation work that is at the heart of this initiative."
Marwell's Zany Zebras follows the success of Go! Rhinos, which Evolution5 also supported in 2013. This latest initiative is raising funds for Marwell's conservation work with the declining population of Grevy's zebras and other African wildlife, and to support communities living in the arid rangelands of northern Kenya.
Based in Southampton, Evolution5 offers a range of construction consultancy services across the South of England, including project management, construction management and cost management to clients in both public and commercial sectors.
Its community engagement programme includes initiatives ranging from sponsorship of a local Thundercat powerboat racing team and the donation of sports and play equipment to schools, to supporting a local student with practical work experience for two years and other activities to help encourage more young people to consider a career in the construction industry.
