Portakabin Delivers Major Interim Office Project on Time Despite Challenging Conditions

Portakabin has delivered a 3,500m² interim office complex for Jaguar Land Rover, overcoming challenging weather conditions to deliver the building on time.

Rapid growth at Jaguar Land Rover prompted the need for high-quality interim office accommodation for the car manufacturer's sales and design teams.  The interim modular building, which will be in situ for three years, is based at the nearby Heritage Motor Centre.

The specially-designed building has space for 550 sales and design staff, enabling Jaguar Land Rover to bring its sales and design teams together under one roof.

The two-storey facility comprises more than 100 steel-framed modules and was fitted with a lift, stair pods, toilets, tea points and upgraded internal partitioning and doors.  Portakabin installed a high-specification air conditioning and ventilation system within a suspended ceiling and the scheme also accommodates a full commercial kitchen.  Other features supplied by Portakabin included fire alarms, access control, CCTV, steps, smoking shelter, ramps and a cycle store.

Portakabin was able to provide an extensive service for this bespoke project, including managing the Building Control application for all works on site, giving Jaguar Land Rover the speed of delivery it required for the building.  Despite the challenging weather conditions of exceptionally heavy rainfall which delayed ground works, Portakabin still achieved the programme with careful co-ordination between contractors.

James Howells, Project Manager, said, "It is fair to say that I have never encountered such continuously atrocious weather during a project.  The torrential rain meant that everyone had to work closely together to ensure progress.  It is testament to the hard work of all those involved that the building was completed on time."

Portakabin provides fully equipped buildings for interim use which can be delivered very quickly to help companies manage rapid growth or the redeployment of staff.

The modular approach allows buildings to be constructed to accommodate from ten to more than 1,000 people, with the capability to create multi-storey schemes with the ultimate flexibility in size and configuration.  Modules can also be linked to existing buildings to create fully-integrated facilities.

Portakabin manufactures a wide range of buildings for both interim and permanent applications and has the widest hire and visitor centre network in the UK.  It can deliver bespoke projects and standardised accommodation solutions in the most challenging timescales, with less disruption and less impact on the environment.

Editor's Notes

1.   Modular construction is a fast and cost-effective way for organisations to expand facilities, particularly on constrained sites.

Complete, fully-fitted buildings can be delivered in a fraction of the time of a site-based construction solution.  Critically, buildings can be installed with minimal disruption and the solution is a much safer approach as fitting out can also be carried out off site.

2.   Portakabin is a registered trademark which must only be used to refer to modular buildings that are known to have been manufactured by the Portakabin Group. Please note, Portakabin is not a generic term.
