Wicona Launches ‘Ideas’ App for Architects and Specifiers

Aluminium façade specialist, Wicona, has launched an iPad app for its Wicona Finder architectural database - an invaluable source of innovative design ideas for curtain walling, window and door solutions.

Users can now receive fast and direct answers to their specification queries in an enjoyable and user-friendly way, with simple access to information using the latest interactive technology and graphically attractive design and interface.

The new app, which can be downloaded free of charge from itunes and at www.wicona.co.uk, offers a mobile architectural database for more than 800 Wicona reference projects worldwide, so specifications for new designs can be verified against similar built solutions, saving time and improving accuracy.

The Wicona Finder database - www.wiconafinder.com - allows architects and building designers to access the design details behind the architecture and demonstrates an enormous range of potential façade solutions based on actual construction examples.  The database provides a wealth of images of each project and showcases the latest trends in international architecture and envelope design.

This substantial and continually increasing database is now available as an iPad app giving access to a vast library of images, background information on each project and detailed information on the Wicona product range which have been or could be used for curtain walling, windows and doors, making the new app a convenient and entertaining tool.

The app also features a map function for locating the exact address for each reference project, allowing specifiers to create tours of buildings to visit in a specific region.  A further, extensive product database provides detailed information on all the Wicona product ranges and informative technical material in PDF format.

Applications of Wicona façade solutions include projects as diverse as the acclaimed German National Library in Leipzig, the Bharati polar research station in the Antarctic, the headquarters building for KfW Bank in Frankfurt and winner of the Global Best Tall Building Award, The Cube in Birmingham designed by Make, and the 200m high Tornado Tower in Qatar.  Specification details of all these projects and others can be found on the Wicona Finder architectural database via the new app.

Wicona offers a range of technically advanced aluminium glazing systems, including unitised and stick curtain walling, structural and roof glazing, highly insulated window systems and heavy duty doors.

Its WICTEC curtain walling suite has a wide range of profiles for the optimum creative freedom and has been used to construct award-winning façades worldwide.

The unitised option brings all the advantages of off-site construction to façade design - reducing time on site by up to 70 per cent, eliminating the need for scaffolding for better site safety, improving quality and performance, and allowing the use of any combination of profiles, infills, external feature caps and glazing specification.  Unitised curtain walling can also incorporate stone cladding, metal, composite or polycarbonate panels, windows, doors and fixed light glazing, brise soleil sunshading, and photovoltaic panels.
